Our Story
In the early 1960s, the late Rev. H.T. Oliver was called by God to ministry. Being obedient to God, on February 24, 1963 he began church services from his home located on Bland Street. In that same year, the church was organized and named Yorkdale Missionary Baptist Church.
With the help of Rev. Frank Smith, the help of Rev Oliver's wife, Sis. Mozelle Oliver, his sister, Sis. Hayde Ware, a few loyal members and very little money, Rev. Oliver stepped out on God’s promise, doing what our Lord asked of him.
The church remained in the home of Rev. Oliver for two years. In 1965 with the help of God and many prayers, Rev. Oliver and members bought the property the church stands on today at 2458 Garapan.
Rev. Oliver retired in 1996. In 1997 Rev. Brian K. Peavy was called to pastor the Yorkdale Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Peavy is a person of great character that's obedient to God. Leadership is a big responsibility that he accepts. He is a tireless worker in the vineyard. He has spread his preaching, teaching and his love. He visits the sick and shut-in, the needy, and has a great love for taking care of the church’s welfare. Rev. Peavy has made many improvements to the church’s building and property grounds. He encourages the entire church body and presents himself as a servant to all.
This church was built on a strong and firm foundation. Under the able leadership of our Pastor, Brian K. Peavy that strong and firm foundation is being carried on today. Truly God has blessed us!

Called to serve. Committed to lead. Rooted in faith. Meet Pastor Brian K. Peavy, the devoted shepherd of The Y Church.
Pastor Brian Peavy's journey of faith and ministry began long before he entered the pulpit. Raised in the church and surrounded by a family legacy of preachers and spiritual leaders, he grew up witnessing the power of faith, service, and Godly leadership firsthand.
In 1992, Pastor Peavy answered God’s call upon his life and made his confession to the ministry. He began preaching at his local First Baptist MBC of Lincoln City and throughout the surrounding community. With a desire to grow both spiritually and academically, he pursued theological studies, completing seminary coursework in the summer of 1994.
The year 1997 marked a defining season in Pastor Peavy’s life. In January, he married his loving wife, Keyshia Peavy. In February, he was appointed the second Senior Pastor of The Yorkdale MBC (The Y.), and in March, the couple welcomed their daughter, Courtney. As his roles expanded from minister to husband, father, and Senior Pastor, his commitment to God’s calling remained steadfast.
Pastor Peavy continued his biblical education through the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas. While pursuing his studies, he officiated his first wedding in Palestine, Texas, in 1999 and completed his studies thereafter in early 2000.
Throughout his ministry, Pastor Peavy has believed that the work of the church extends beyond its walls. His leadership and service throughout the community have included involvement with numerous ministerial alliances, community organizations, educational initiatives, and partnerships focused on community awareness, empowerment, and strengthening relationships between residents and law enforcement. His service has included organizations and initiatives such as the Board of City Council Ministers Alliance, Ministers Against Crime, Minister Coalition, Education Empowerment, and more.
At the heart of Pastor Peavy’s ministry is a genuine love for God and His people. He counsels. He leads. He prays. He teaches. He ministers. Whether behind the pulpit or serving within the community, he remains committed to uplifting others through the Word of God and providing faithful leadership to those he has been called to serve.
For more than two decades, Pastor Peavy has faithfully shepherded at The Yorkdale MBC through seasons of growth, change, celebration, and challenge. His pastoral journey continues to reflect a commitment of faith.
